Speaker: Katharine O’Connell, Founder, North Coast Genealogy

Description:

Beginning an heir search can be a daunting task for attorneys and executors faced with unknowns. Whether locating beneficiaries of intestate estates or trying to locate next of kin for notification, the legal stakes of getting it right are high. Add in family estrangements, missing people, divorces, adoptions, and international borders: you may feel overwhelmed! Katharine O’Connell will discuss some of the scenarios you might face in your practice and how to go about resolving them. She will help you learn what to look for when hiring a researcher. Finally, she will walk you through a sample case to give you a sense of the research process, the problems you might encounter, and how to be sure that all heirs are accounted for.
